Powdered Toast Man was a television superhero and spokesperson for Powdered Toast, a delicious breakfast which tastes “just like sawdust.” He flies backwards. He can turn into Powdered Toast dust. He can shoot raisins out of his mouth at dangerous speeds. He has a phone on his tongue which alerts him to danger. His alter-ego is Pastor Toastman, a “cool youth deacon.” Powdered Toast Man appeared in two in-show commercial segments before getting his own full, self-titled episode. In “Powdered Toast Man,” the hero saves The Pope, voiced by legendary musician Frank Zappa. Avatar: The Last Airbender ran on Nickelodeon from 2005 - 2008, while The Legend of Korra aired from 2012 - 2014. The former follows Aang, the avatar who had been missing for 100 years. He must learn to master all four elements in order to bring the fire nation to heel and restore balance between the nations. The Legend of Korra is about Aang's successor, Korra, who has to work to bring unity on the physical and spirit realms alike. Avatar: The Last Airbender is my favourite series of all time - I watched the whole 61-episode run three times during the pandemic and have an enormous tattoo based on The Tale of Iroh lining the inside of my right bicep. I’m admittedly a little less into The Legend of Korra , but it’s still probably in my top ten TV shows. This is a universe I’ve devoted hundreds of hours to, and I’ll be damned if Nick is bringing out a Smash -esque brawler that forgets about some of the best characters in animation history.

If you skip to 0:35 and pause the screen, you’ll see Patrick Star dropkicking Nigel Thornberry, which understandably draws your eye away from the rest of the frame. Once I saw the white buildings adorned with green and yellow, my mind instantly went to Ba Sing Se - but it could have been somewhere else, right? As distinctive as Ba Sing Se is in Avatar, the portrayal here is 2D and nondescript outside of a vague coloration similarity.
Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl was announced early July 13. A Super Smash Bros. -style fighting game , Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl will feature characters from well-known shows from the network fighting in an all-out brawl against one another. The initial trailer revealed characters and faces from Spongebob Squarepants, Ren & Stimpy _ and _Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles , among others, with more promised to be unveiled at a later date. As previously mentioned, whether players choose to quick match or go into the campaign, most of their fights will be online against other players. Override 2 will default into bot matches if necessary, and that might be an inevitability. Even in its first week, Override 2 struggled to fill up anything but a one-on-one matchup, and the fights against AI are nothing to write home about. Many of the arenas are small enough that's it's easy to overwhelm a computer opponent with a series of spam attacks, and that complete lack of complexity combines with the endless dialogue on a static menu to make for a painfully boring endea
Korra’s braids are usually pretty thin, but if you watch an action sequence from the show you’ll see that her hair thickens in combat. Meanwhile, Aang’s bald head and distinctive ears separate his silhouette from those of pretty much every other Nickelodeon character ever created. As protagonists of some of Nick’s biggest shows, they’re natural shoo-ins for a game - especially a fighting game. Still, it’s refreshing to see some confirmation that we’ve got at least one Avatar stage and two Avatar characters. If they weren’t in All-Star Brawl, there’s no way in hell I’d have considered playing it. Now, though… Well, I might start playing Smash again so I can become an esports pro as a Korra main.
Hopefully there are more characters, stages, and tracks from Avatar included in the final game. As for now, though, I’m just happy that it seems Avatar is being included to at least some extent. This is my favourite series ever made, and, honestly, I’m relieved to finally see it being represented in a modern video game, even if Aang and Korra are getting into fistfights with the dinosaur from Rugrats.
Following up from the original Override , Super Mech League shifts gears from an alien invasion plot to a more straightforward sports analogy.
