SI
Refer to SIM for moon sighting.
SI is used to perform a sun sighting on the brewer. It is suggested to run an AZ and ZE prior to doing the SI to ensure the brewer is pointing correctly. Sun sighting should be done once every 2 weeks to ensure the instrument is pointed correctly and measuring well.
Refer to the Brewer Site Operator's Manual in section 2.1 for more information on how to preform a sighting.
Tips:
- New electronics will have a delay after pressing the buttons on the brewer. You may have to hold the button up to 3 seconds before it moves. A way around this is use the keyboard commands during a sighting and pressing the ←↑→↓ to adjust the horizontal and north correction.
- You can still do a sighting when the sun is slightly covered during an overcast. So long as you can see the sun's disk and/or a shadow being casted by the sun, you can lower the ND filter, and the instrument may be able to see the sun. This can be done via pressing the ZXCVB for nd filter 0, 1, 2, 3, 4 respectively. (Lower the number, the brighter the image will be)
- If you the sighting is extremely off (Or the instrument was recently installed) you may not see the any bright spot in the entrance slit. Simply rotate the brewer via the buttons until the shadow on the viewing window's frame's shadow is only above or below the view window.
